Tamworth is a large market town situated about 14 miles northeast of Birmingham in England, and 103 miles northwest of London. The town gets its name from the River Tame which flows through it. The town is home to about 80,000 residents.

One of the top attractions in the town is the Snowdome, a real indoor snow ski slope, and U.K.’s first full-size indoor ski slope. Tamworth is a town that has a sense of antiquity. In the 8th century, the town was home to king Offa of Mercia and the site of his mint. About 200 hundred years later, Aethelfraed, King Alfred’s daughter, fortified the village after winning a crucial victory over the Danish army.
The Normans provided the area with its famous Castle and Moat House in the 11th century. The town hall was built in the 17th century using funds provided by local MP Thomas Guy, who was also the founder of London’s Guy’s Hospital. The statue of Prime Minister Robert Peel stands proudly outside the building.
