Why Visit Thorpe Park?
With 1.8 million visitors in 2017, Thorpe Park is one of the biggest and most popular theme parks in the UK. Open every day 10am-6/10pm (closing times depend on the day/season), it offers its visitors 30 different rides and attractions as well as a variety of one-day or weekend events over the year. This amusement park is therefore an ideal place to visit whatever your age. A one-day pass costs £55 when issued on the day, but if visitors book their tickets online in advance they will be 40% cheaper.
Apart from the attractions of Thorpe Park, its location is another reason to stay there. With excellent road and rail communications and well-served by public transport, it is only 24 miles from London and within easy reach of many tourist attractions in the south-east of England.
When travelling by train, you can travel by rail to either Chertsey or Staines railway stations. Central London is less than 1 hour away by train. When driving, the park can be found on the A320 road, clearly signposted from Junctions 11 and 13 of the M25 motorway.
Compare our special deals and last minute offers. Many places to stay provide free car parking, a free breakfast or family rooms. Make the most of the thrills and stay for at least 2 days!
Thorpe Park is one of Britain’s most popular theme parks together with Alton Towers Resort near Stoke on Trent, Drayton Manor in Staffordshire, Legoland in Windsor, and Flamingo Land park (see places to stay nearby).
Where to Stay (Hotel and B&B) ?
There are a variety of places to stay near Thorpe Park according to your budget and your personal preferences – ranging from luxurious hotels to a cheap b&b.
If the main purpose of your visit is to go to the themepark, you could stay on-site at the Thorpe Shark Hotel. You should check their website before making reservations as they offer a number of cheap deals and discounts both on rooms and Park admission fees. If it’s fully-booked, Thorpe Park has a number of partner hotels with special discounts for theme park visitors.
The amusement park is located between the market towns of Chertsey and Staines-upon-Thames. Both towns are ideal bases as they offer easy access to shopping outlets and evening entertainment and a variety of cheap hotels such as the riverside Bridge Hotel which has rooms for as cheap as £45 per person per night.
The Travelodge chain has hotels in both towns and are ideal for visitors who want simple, clean but cheap accommodation. If you prefer to stay somewhere with more character, many pubs and former coaching inns in these towns have been converted into cheap b&b establishments.
The Coach & Horses b&b at Chertsey is a 10-minute walk from Thorpe Park while the family-owned Albany House Bed and Breakfast in Staines-upon-Thames is only 1.5 miles from the city centre. Often rooms are limited at a b&b (especially in summer), but a list of approved b&b establishments can be found at local tourist information offices.
Families with children or larger groups can choose to stay in a family room or self catering apartment.
The amusement park is located southwest of central London. So, you can easily extend your holiday with a visit to the capital city for a couple of nights. Both Windsor Castle and Hampton Court Palace can also easily be reached from the area. The themepark is within easy reach of Twickenham Rugby Ground, and Ascot Racecourse as well.
Many establishments nearby the park provide a free car parking space, free Wi-Fi internet connection and feature an on-site restaurant. One of the nearest hotels is The Bridge Hotel, located in Chertsey.

What is the Area Like around Thorpe Park?
From historical sites to first-class sporting facilities, from large urban centres like Guildford to quaint villages, Surrey is a county of contrasts.
Surrey has played a key role in British history as witnessed by the large number of heritage sites such as Runnymede (where Prince John put his seal to the Magna Carta in 1215) and the sheer numbers of stately homes, castles, ruined abbeys and cathedrals. As well as larger collections of historical memorabilia, most small towns (including Chertsey) boast their own locally-run museums which are often free. Historic sites are often set in landscaped gardens, and most towns have public parks too.
For those who prefer to explore untamed nature, there are a number of nature reserves with walking trails. This will give visitors the chance to get away from noisy towns and see the local flora and fauna from up close. Staines Moor is especially well-known for its bird-watching. Following local rivers on foot – most notably the River Thames – is another way to explore the area. Boat trips are also available for people who wish to see the Surrey countryside from a different angle.
As well as its close proximity to London, Thorpe Park is very near to Berkshire. Two of the most popular attractions in the neighbouring county are Legoland and Windsor. Legoland, open every day 9.30am-6pm, is a 61-acre theme part aimed at children aged 2-12 years old with 55 interactive shows, rides and attractions. Only 8 miles from Thorpe Park, Windsor is dominated by its castle (with a Changing of the Guard on certain days) and has a museum as well as Windsor Great Park which covers 4,800 acres. There visitors can walk, cycle, picnic, go horse-riding or take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage.
A visit to the area surrounding Thorpe Park can be tailor-made to suit the interests and budget of the visitors. Whether they opt for sight-seeing or leisurely strolls and whether they stay in high-end hotels or a friendly family-run b&b, no two experiences will be the same.
