From the railway station, which is right in the heart of the port, London Euston is only four hours away and Manchester Piccadilly Station two hours. If you wish to fly and then continue your journey by ferry, Liverpool John Lennon (see cheap hotels) and Manchester Airports are both just over 100 miles away. The rugged coastline is great for cliff walks and if you are feeling energetic you could hike to the summit of Holyhead Mountain. At the base of the mountain is the South Stack lighthouse, which is open to visitors, providing you are able to make the 400 step descent to its offshore rock home.
Water sports enthusiasts will find plenty to occupy them at Trearddur Bay, just south of the town. A visit to the area between May and June will see the amazing site of thousands of seabirds, including some rare puffins, nesting and raising their young on the cliff sides.

A lot of the overnight accommodation options and B&B’s will offer you a full Welsh breakfast, which is sure to fill you up and keep you going for most of the day.
