The Ferry Terminals, one for passengers and one for vehicles, are operated by Stena Line and Irish Ferries, operating services to Ireland. From Holyhead ferries run to Dublin and Dun Laoghaire in Ireland. Stena Line is one of the world’s largest ferry companies and Irish Ferries is Ireland’s largest ferry company operating between Ireland and Britain and Ireland and Continental Europe.

The Ferry Port is linked to the town by a five minute walk across the Celtic Gateway and also has excellent links by road to the rest of Wales and the United Kingdom, you will find ample parking facilities at the terminal. From the railway station, which is right in the heart of the port, London Euston is only four hours away and Manchester Piccadilly Station two hours. Cardiff central train station can also easily be reached.

Holyhead (or Caergybi in Welsh) is very much a working town and doesn’t spring immediately to mind as a tourist destination, but it does provide an excellent base for exploring some of the stunning countryside around it.
The rugged coastline is great for cliff walks and if you are feeling energetic you could hike to the summit of Holyhead Mountain. At the base of the mountain is the South Stack lighthouse, which is open to visitors, providing you are able to make the 400 step descent to its offshore rock home.
Water sports enthusiasts will find plenty to occupy them at Trearddur Bay, just south of the town. A visit to the area between May and June will see the amazing site of thousands of seabirds, including some rare puffins, nesting and raising their young on the cliff sides.
