Market Town in Cheshire England UK
Chester is located at the River Dee, close to the border with Wales, famous for its galleried rows and Roman remains. It boasts many historical sites, including a fascinating walk around its city walls. Although Chester is a city, it is held in endearment by the locals primarily as a market town.
It was once a Roman stronghold so expect to see remains of Roman walls, gardens and spas. It’s only a short walk from the train station to the city centre where there are many shopping centres, restaurants, cafes, bars and night clubs.
For something a little different, how about taking a short bus ride to the River Dee and hire a boat for the day? It’s a great way to see the city from this meandering river, so don’t forget your camera.
After a busy day sightseeing, shopping and boating, return to your bed and breakfast accommodation to chill out, relax and have a good night’s sleep. Why not have a flutter at Chester Racecourse? There are race meetings held throughout the year so if you do intend to book cheap hotels or b&b’s, it’s strongly recommended to make accommodation arrangements well in advance.
Cheap Places to Stay for all tasted and budgets
When it comes to overnight accommodation, the city caters for all tastes and budgets from five star hotels, cheap hotels, b&b’s as well as affordable backpacker hostels.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re looking for bed and breakfast for all the family, a group of friends, couples or even a single traveller, there is plenty to choose from near the bus or train station.
After your delicious meal at your bed and breakfast hop on to an open top tour bus which will take you around the main tourist sights in about thirty minutes. If it’s luxurious pampering you’re after, check out the town’s famous spa. There are extensive treatments on offer, something to suit everyone to help revitalise the body.
Many holidaymakers choose to reserve b&b’s for a weekend, midweek or full week next to Grosvenor Park which is a classic 19th century Victorian park. It’s right on the banks of the River Dee with stunning views across the river towards the south of the city centre.
Some properties feature a spa where guests can relax with luxurious spa treatments or enjoy the steam room and sauna. Others boasts an indoor heated swimming pool, hot tub, and a modern gym.
