Welcome to Lancaster, a city characterised by history and intrigue. Residing on the River Lune, this small city is one of the finest cultural and educational centres in Lancashire and the north of England. This town maintains a close relationship with the monarchy and was granted city status in 1937 due to its long lasting relationship with the crown.

Lancaster is a realm of stunning architecture and this can be enjoyed by visiting the university, castle, memorial and numerous location around the city centre. Evidence depicted from Roman coins suggests that this town dates back to before the 1st century AD, when there was a small fort on the same hill which is now occupied by the castle.
Archaeological evidence also suggests that there was a monastery present here from around the 7th or 8th centuries and although there is little documentation to suggest inhabitance of this town between the 5th and 11th centuries, many historians believe there was a colony present.
The city centre is accessible via the A6 road and this town can also be accessed from the M6 motorway which passes to the east of the town. There is an abundance of overnight accommodation in central Lancaster as the city is quite popular with tourists. Close by is the seaside town of Morecambe and Heysham ferry port. Blackpool hotels and beaches are within easy reach as well.
