Overview
John Radcliffe Hospital plays an important part in the academic process of Oxford and Oxford Brookes Universities. The first of its buildings opened doors in 1972 and a second building was opened in 1979. The first one had a neonatology department, and the second building began providing a wide range of additional specialised services.
Today, a wide range of additional medical services is available at Churchill Hospital – another Oxford University teaching facility that has a well-established research department. John Radcliffe Hospital has constantly been expanded and improved. A new specialised Children’s Hospital opened doors in 2008.
It’s named after John Radcliffe, an 18th-century physician who graduated from Oxford University. JP Hospital is part of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, along with Churchill and Horton General hospitals.
