How can I reach Edinburgh Airport by car ?

The airport is located just off the A8 from the centre of Edinburgh. The well-signed access road turns north off the A8 between the Gogar and Newbridge roundabouts. Journey time is about 25 minutes drive from the city centre, outside of peak rush-hour times when the journey time can be as much as an hour.

How to get to Edinburgh City Centre ?


By Car :

Edinburgh city centre is well signposted from the airport if you are travelling by road. The airport is about eight miles (12km) west of the city centre and the journey (via the A8 Glasgow Road) takes about 25 minutes in light traffic. A number of car hire companies operate from the airport.

By Bus and Coach :

Public bus services stop outside the UK arrivals doors on the terminal forecourt.

Airlink 100 is an express bus service to Edinburgh city centre. This service runs every 10 minutes at peak times through the day, and every 30 minutes at night and terminates at Waverley Bridge, near Waverley railway station. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

35 bus service runs between the airport and Leith’s Ocean Terminal via South Gyle, Sighthill and Fountainbridge, operated by Lothian Buses.

The Air Direct 747 service connecting the airport with Inverkeithing Railway station and Ferrytoll Park & Ride is run by Stagecoach.

Both Citylink and National Express operate coach services from the primary coach station, located in Elder Street in Edinburgh. Coaches travel to destinations across Scotland and the UK.

By Tram :

Trams run every 7 minutes to the City Centre. Journey time is approx. 30 minutes. Services to the City Centre operate between 06:18 – 22:48 hours. In addition to the City Centre, trams service the financial district, Murrayfield Stadium and railways stations at Edinburgh Gateway, Edinburgh Park, Haymarket and St Andrew Square (for Waverley).

By Train :

Edinburgh Airport does not have direct rail access at present. You can take a taxi or bus to Edinburgh Waverley train station in the city centre.

From Edinburgh main railway station (Waverley) there are services to Glasgow and a variety of other destinations in Scotland and England. Most train services also operate from Edinburgh Haymarket station which is on the main bus route between the airport and city centre.

By Taxi :

Taxis are available beside the coach park outside the UK arrivals hall.
