No guide to the East Midlands would be complete without mention of its many cities, with their range of size and style, there’s a city-break in the East Midlands for everyone. Leicester is the most ethnically diverse city in England, and the vibrancy of its street and youth culture leads to an exciting vibe for a cheap break.

Nottingham is steeped in rich history (the Goose Fair has been running annually for 720 years) and legend, but the presence of two universities keeps the city fresh, youthful and fun. Much smaller in scale, Historic Lincoln is a medieval jewel of a city; its cathedral and castle are home to fascinating artefacts and it’s charming street (including Steep Hill, one of the steepest roads in England) are home to numerous quirky and interesting shops and restaurants.
