UCLH was created for clinical teaching
As a hospital, UCLH was created for clinical teaching in 1934 and is still used in this way by the university. The current building was only finished in 2005 and is a state of the art, cutting edge clinical setting with with 665 beds.
UCLH has an A & E department which sees over 80,000 patients a year and is also home to the newly opened Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing which covers all women’s health and incorporates a maternity led birthing unit, as well as the very new Macmillan Cancer Care Ward. UCLH also incorporates the Centre for Tropical Diseases and the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health.
