Buchanan Bus Terminal in Glasgow Scotland
As the capital of cultural titan Scotland, Glasgow is as much a charming travel destination as it is a historical monolith for the world. On Scottish ground many a battle was fought, some for love, some over glory. Castles and palaces were built, kings were betrayed, revolutions took place, and the face of the world was forever changed. On this very Scottish ground, a bus station was built.
Facing the Buchanan bus terminal is the Royal Concert Hall, the performance base for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The hall has received many internationally acclaimed invitees, amongst which was peace activist Nelson Mandela.
A few blocks away from the station you will find the Glasgow Caledonian University, a 200-years-old institution that ranks amongst the ten best modern universities in the entirety of the United Kingdom. And speaking of top-ranking buildings in the Kingdom, Buchanan Galleries is a commercial megastructure located in the same vicinity, more specifically in Sauchiehall Street.
Other worthy visits when you coach to this part of town are the Caledonian LGBT Society, a diverse and welcoming university club north of the bus station where social issues and events-planning take place, and the Pavillion Theatre, a stage for plays and seminars where Scotland’s most diverse acts happen, from Shakespearian works to contemporary acts.
Places to Stay – Low Cost Accommodation
In a region so abundant with life, a good accommodation for the night that fits your specific needs are easy to find. Head west towards the aforementioned university and you will end up facing a couple of cheap hotels run by a welcoming staff. While on college grounds, any given student will surely know of affordable rooms nearby.
There are cozy bed and breakfast services if you are looking for a homely feeling, but there are also royal B&B’s owned by smiley natives with a tricky accent if you are looking for something in the line of the Middle Ages and old European clichés. Popular in the city is also staying in larger apartments for one night or a weekend.
Having a safe and affordable place to stay for a night is the first step in exploring the many glorious sights available in Glasgow, and from there, the rest of the country or even the entire British Kingdom. Be it the guest rooms you found or the bed and breakfast in the city centre, a safe place and the services of Buchanan bus station are the first steps on a journey that can take you to the wonders of the Gaelic world.
One of the cheapest hotels around is low budget Ibis Glasgow Centre, set 2 minutes from Sauchiehall Street, and a short walk from Princes Square. Ibis Hotel is a 10-minute walk from the main train station. The Cathedral and the SECC can be reached in a 25-minute walk. If you are looking for a low cost hostel. Euro Hostel is located in the city cente, within a 10-minute walk of the city’s famous nightlife.
