University College London Hospital (UCLH) is located in the heart of the UK capital in the Fitzrovia area of the Royal Borough of Camden. As a hospital, UCLH was created for clinical teaching in 1934 and is still used in this way by the university. The current building was only finished in 2005 and is a state of the art, cutting edge clinical setting with with 665 beds.
UCLH has an A & E department which sees over 80,000 patients a year and is also home to the newly opened Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing which covers all women’s health and incorporates a maternity led birthing unit, as well as the very new Macmillan Cancer Care Ward. UCLH also incorporates the Centre for Tropical Diseases and the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health.
The hospital is run by the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and a key location for the UCL Medical School. It is also a major centre for medical research and part of both the UCLH/UCL Biomedical Research Centre and the UCL Partners academic health science centre.
