History lovers staying in accommodation in the city can also visit museums such as the Albert Memorial Museum, which is close to the train station (Central and St Davids) and houses a collection of artifacts from across the world.

A great reason to visit is the range of English country manors that can be reached from the city centre. Visit magnificent properties like Bicton Park (with some of the best botanical gardens in the UK) or Killerton House where you can experience a traditional Devon tea, with cream and scones.
Natural beauty is one of the town’s attractions as well. Anybody staying near Royal Devon Hospital can easily reach Dartmoor or Exmoor – where they can walk, cycle, hang-glide and even try pony trekking in stunningly beautiful surroundings. The coast around the city is also a great location for beach holidays, with sandy beaches at resorts like Dawlish or Lyme Regis.
Then there is the nightlife, much of which is the result of the town’s large student population. Head to gig venues and clubs in the university district, or try something more sophisticated by catching a play at the Barnfield Theatre, before heading for a good night’s sleep at your b&b or bed and breakfast.
Children are also catered for, with the Clip n Climb centre and a ten pin bowling alley in the city centre. Anyone can enjoy time spend in such a lively and attractive historical city.
As a tourist city with a university, Exeter offers plenty of excellent cheap hotels and other forms of accommodation for visitors to enjoy. There are bed and breakfast options like Oakcliffe, which is a few hundred metres from the main central St Davids railway station. The White Hart Inn is another excellent affordable B&B, and is very close to the St. Thomas train station.
There are a number of fine hotels near Royal Devon Hospital – with Buckerell Lodge a good choice for budget travellers. In the city centre, there are the usual chain hotels, which provide a stripped down, but efficient service. Thistle, Premier Inn and Great Westtern will all provide a comfortable alternative, but families may well find a bed and breakfast more welcoming.
And, away from the big companies, there are several independent cheap hotels which provide a good service in the centre of town. The Magdalen Chapter and Southernhay House are particular favourites, with a relaxed atmosphere and convenient locations.

The hospital is part of the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, and is used for clinical training of medical students from the University of Exeter medical school and Peninsula Medical School.
