Its location on the east coast of the Isle of Man, which is itself at the heart of the British Isles, and the development of its ferry port and harbour, also made it the perfect base for cruises.
A number of cheap b&b’s and budget hotels line up the coastline, providing an excellent base for a stay in the capital, whether it is just for 1 night or for longer holidays. Staying near the ferry port terminal or one of the railway terminals is a great idea if you plan on exploring the island further.
Public transport is very good in Douglas and the whole of the Isle of Man, with a comprehensive bus network, including night services during the weekend, which means you should not have any issue traveling around wherever you decide to stay.

Staying overnight near Noble’s Park or Onchan Pleasure Park allows you to enjoy the town’s beautiful green spaces to your heart’s content and is also a very good option if you are traveling with children.
What to see and do during your stay for a night, weekend, holiday
Douglas became a prominent seaside resort during Victorian times and many landmarks are testimonies to this glorious period. Walking around the town centre is one of the best ways to get a feel of this historical importance.
Consider a stroll along the famous Promenade to enjoy beautiful views of the seafront, and if you are traveling during late spring or summer, don’t forget to take a ride on the horse drawn trams, the Steam trains and the Manx Electric Railway, along the coast as far as the southern tip of the Isle of Man.
Landmarks are numerous in the capital of the island of Man, from the fascinating Grand Union Camera Obscura, to the magnificent Gaiety Theatre and Villa Marina, or the Jubilee clock. A range of low cost hotels and cheap b&b’s are present in the town centre, which makes all travel easy and convenient.
Once you have taken in the wonderful Victorian architecture, have a relaxing walk in Noble’s Park and indulge in local gastronomy at one of the numerous pubs and restaurants.
