Dundee Ninewells is the largest teaching hospital in the UK and Europe. It’s run by the NHS Tayside.
A full range of treatments and services are available from midwifery to emergency care. As one of the largest hospitals in Scotland and with two universities in the area demand for hotel rooms is high. Some offer the chance for a luxurious stay in a lovely historic building and others are in sleek and modern surroundings. The cheaper hotels and bed and breakfasts in Dundee are not far from Ninewells as well.
The ground is located west of Dundee city centre, not far from the local international airport (DND). The main entrance is on Ninewells Avenue which runs between Perth Road and Glamis Road.
Located within the complex is Tayside Children’s Hospital. It serves children, age from birth up until their fourteenth birthday, who live in Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross and north east Fife. The Medical School is connected to the hospital. Facilities include lecture theatres, teaching laboratories, a medical library, an integrated self-teaching area, a computer suite and the leading Clinical Skills Centre.
Travelling is easy from the centre of the city as it is only a fifteen minute walk or a short taxi ride costing about £6 or £7. Travelling to Dundee is also easy, especially by train as the train station is right in the centre of the town and is on the East Coast Mainline. Driving into the city is not difficult and there are a number of multi-storey car parks such as the Well Gate Centre or the Bell Street car park.
Parking on the health campus itself can be difficult, but not impossible, and if you need car parking nearby to an entrance calling ahead is essential. There are a couple of car parks that are a short distance away and the NHS runs a shuttle bus throughout the day.
Travelling by bike is another option as there are bicycle racks and you can also take the x7 bus from the centre of town. If you are staying nearby to the hospital then you have full access to everything in the centre of town. The ship RRS Discovery is docked in the harbour and the Science Centre is a popular place to visit, especially for children.
Overgate Shopping Centre has a fabulous range of shops and the two universities makes for a lively nightlife. With restaurants catering for everyone from the local students to those working in the oil industry, there are places to eat for every budget.

Bus numbers 20 and 22 buses operate to the centre of town. Circular buses numbered 9 or 11 are going to the hospital, while bus routes 10 and 12 leave the hospital.
