Something to suit everyone
Let’s take a look to Hampshire, England and what accommodation is available in the county, from budget and b&b to boutique am spa and country hotels. This beautiful part of the country has limitless options.
Hampshire is a thriving international hub for the country, with the ferry ports at Portsmouth bringing in passengers from Europe, the Channel Islands and the nearby Isle of Wight, while Southampton airport brings in high volumes of domestic and international passengers.
Cheap Accommodation in Hampshire
It has a wonderful mixture of agriculture and industry, as well as the naval and commercial ports of Portsmouth and Southampton, and the preserved historical buildings of Winchester, the County town and ancient capital of Wessex and England, as well as the beauty and natural history of the New Forest and South Downs National Parks and the coastline. Hampshire has something to suit everyone.
Hampshire Accommodation
Hampshire in the United Kingdom is a very large county, with the towns of Basingstoke, Andover, Aldershot and Farnborough in the north, Alton, Winchester and Romsey in the middle, and to the South, along the coast, Portsmouth and Southampton with it’s major cruise port and the conurbation of towns between them and up to Eastleigh above Southampton, so it would be impossible to describe all the accommodation available out of thousands of places of all kinds, self-catering, camping, holiday homes, cheap bed and breakfasts, and hotels – from budget to boutique.
North Hampshire
The towns of North Hampshire are densely populated and heavily related to industry and the industrial estates around each town. Among the extensive industrial estates of Andover, for example, the Twining tea factories are based. So these towns are geared up to industry-based visitors, and have many budget bed and breakfast houses both in the towns and in the rural areas and villages for a cheaper option. B&B and hotels are easy to look up and find, as there are many to suit location and needs. The major hotels are also available in the larger towns.
Mid Hampshire Accommodation
There is good news in Winchester, a new Premier Inn hotel has recently been opened in the Winnal area of the city, convenient both for the city, the industrial estates, and the M3 motorway just up the road, but there is a well-kept secret nearby. The historic ‘First In, Last Out’ Inn, almost diagonally opposite, has cheap budget bed and breakfast rooms to let, and at the best price for overnight travellers. The Inn doesn’t advertise its rooms, so it is a word of mouth secret for travellers and workmen, and the rooms are perfectly comfortable and suitable for a short b&b stay.
If you fancy something more classy than a budget b&b, Winchester is an upmarket town and a great place for boutique and spa hotels, for example the Winchester hotel with it’s own spa, or other Spa, boutique and upmarket hotels include Lainstone House, set in magnificent parkland, or the Hotel du Vin, boutique and spa hotel right in the town centre.
South Hampshire Accommodation
On the South Coast, if you start with the New Forest, there are endless camping, caravanning and self-catering accommodation opportunities, however, if you want to stay in that area in summer, book in advance, and in the low season, double check that the site that you want is open.
Southampton has a profusion of bed and breakfast places, with the cheap budget ones being centred around the Polygon and Hill Lane area. It is a big student city, with a big demand for accommodation.
If you are flying into Southampton and need immediate accommodation, you can usually get a room at the well known Premier Inn hotels, as they usually accept people just turning up or pre-booking, but there is always the risk of Channel Islands sports teams having taken all available rooms!
There are other Premier Inn hotels in the Southampton and Eastleigh area, as well as Mercure, Ibis and Travelodge hotels.
Along the main road between the airport and Eastleigh, there are numerous bed and breakfasts for overnight stays before or after landing.
Portsmouth has a Holiday Inn and other major hotels on the outskirts, close to the international ferry port and road links. Portsmouth has plenty of cheap b&b houses across the city as well as other hotels.
